“Since the beginning of October, a little over 1.3 million Ukrainians have contracted ARVI, flu and COVID-19 in Ukraine,” he said.

According to him, this is almost 41% more than last year. This is due to the fact that last year flu and ARVI cases were counted separately, but this year they were combined.

Kuzin noted that in Ukraine, severe illness and hospitalization are mainly related to COVID-19.

“Since October, almost 80,000 cases of COVID-19 have been registered, and about 4,000 patients are hospitalized in one week on average. People with severe disease or patients from risk groups are subject to hospitalization,” said the chief sanitary officer.

He also noted that if the epidemic threshold is exceeded, the decision to restrict is made at the regional level.

“This may include the introduction of local quarantine or local anti-epidemic measures, such as the extension of school holidays,” Kuzin summarized.
