The first functionality of the general system of electronic warfare management, about which Zaluzhny wrote, has been launched in the United States

The need for and proliferation of electronic warfare equipment, as one of the elements of countering drones, actually raises another level of problem: how to manage them.

Because the approximated situation, when each armored vehicle and each position has a “trench electronic warfare system” and the battalion and brigade systems are working “above them” at a higher level, raises a simple question: how to manage and interact with it. Because you always have to remember that the CBR works both ways.

These are the things that Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, wrote about in his book “Modern Positional Warfare and How to Win It.”

At the same time, only a few days ago, the United States officially announced the launch of only the first version, with limited functionality, or rather only certain functions, of the EMBM-J system – the electromagnetic warfare management system.

defence-ua, according to the US Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), has the lowest possible viability, but will be scaled and developed. In other words, the full integration of this system and its conditional adoption by the US armed forces is still a long, long way off.

The purpose of EMBM-J is to “provide comprehensive information on the state of the electromagnetic environment” to combatant commands and joint task forces. The agency said in a statement that “this tool provides the commander with the ability to act quickly by visualizing the overall operational picture of the EW environment and is the first step towards achieving superiority in this environment.”

In simple terms, it is an automated system for exchanging information about the operation of all electronic warfare assets, and, accordingly, electronic intelligence, which flows to one center, is processed and distributed down to the lowest “infantry” level. That is, in fact, another “level” or “layer” will be added to the general automated command and control system with comprehensive information about this dimension of combat.

In words, it may be very simple, but in practice, it requires adding a connection to a common automated control system to each trench-based electronic warfare device. But this is indeed the only way to systematize and interact the use of these means together with all other components and capabilities of the armed forces.

At the same time, the United States takes this particular use of electronic warfare very seriously, as some experiments on situational awareness at the lowest level in this dimension intensified in early 2021 as part of the Network CFT project, which should enable infantrymen to “see” radio waves.
