BAE Systems will install smart electronics in outdated M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles
Defense manufacturer BAE Systems has signed a contract to modernize obsolete M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. It amounted to 78.4 million USD.
According to the terms of the contract, the characteristics of the machines must be brought by the contractor to the level of M7A4 and M2A4. According to Military aerospace, the smart electronics installed as part of the modernization will allow the M2 Bradley to interact on the battlefield with modern armored platforms such as the M1 Abrams.
Wind power, electrical systems, software, fire control system, shock absorbers, suspensions, tracks and heavy torsion bars, air conditioning system and radios will be upgraded.
The M2 Bradley was originally designed to transport infantrymen and conduct reconnaissance. The combat vehicle is equipped with a 25-mm cannon. It is characterized by high maneuverability. The machine requires three crew members to operate. The BMP’s landing gear can accommodate seven infantrymen.
