In the Zaporizhzhia sector, the NGU tested new explosive devices for attack drones
Soldiers of the UNKERS unit of the Spartan Brigade’s UAV strike company are testing several types of projectiles that can be used by FPV drones to destroy enemy infantry and vehicles.
In the Zaporizhzhia sector, in between combat missions, the NGU fighters are training and developing new tactics to counter the enemy. Thus, the fighters of the UNKERS unit of the Spartan Brigade’s UAV attack company tested new explosive devices that can be used as a charge for FPV drones. This was reported by the press service of the military unit 3017 of the National Guard of Ukraine.
“This is a test to see if these munitions are effective in destroying enemy targets. We are testing several types of munitions, such as high-explosive fragmentation, grenades and HEUs. Each of them is designed to hit different targets, such as enemy infantry and vehicles,” said one of the crew members, Mex.
The National Guard noted that a lot depends not only on the size and strength of the explosive device, but also on the training and skill of the drone operator.
“It takes a person three or four days to learn how to fly without any obstacles and the like. But in order to conduct professional reconnaissance, detect the enemy, and make drops, you need a lot of practice and effort. It’s not enough to just fly, you have to take into account a lot of details – it’s a whole science,” says the UAV operator, pseudonym Grecha.
According to the fighters, they currently have kamikaze drones and Mavic, but they are consumables and are needed constantly.
“First, we conduct reconnaissance with mavicomputers, and then we destroy them with the ammunition we are testing today. And for the Russians, this is a terrible threat from us, because it is difficult to hide from them, both for infantry and enemy vehicles, so it is so important for us to improve our skills and weapons,” says National Guard member Phlegma.
The spread of the latest technologies forces Ukrainian defenders to reorganize and constantly learn new things.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on the successes of Backfire drones over the past year. Ukrainian Backfire drones conducted about 60% of combat missions in the second quarter of 2023.
