A new trend in pet plastic surgery has emerged in China.

In particular, pet owners undergo cosmetic surgery to change the shape of their pets’ ears, thereby making them look like the famous mouse from the Disney cartoon Mickey Mouse.
Liu Yundong, dean of the Loving Care International Pet Medical Center in Beijing, explained that the procedure consists of two parts.
First, the surgical process of cutting and shaping the ears is performed, which requires anesthesia and takes about half an hour.
The second phase involves the formation of ears in an upright position, which can take from 20 to 60 days. This stage takes a little more time and requires frequent adjustment to ensure that the pet’s ears are always in an upright position.
Although this procedure is legal, reputable animal clinics in large cities rarely perform such surgeries on pets.
“This operation is rarely performed in pet hospitals in first-tier cities, but is common in kennels and breeding facilities for dogs. There are currently no legal restrictions on this operation in China. It is a moral issue. As veterinarians, we adhere to the principle of animal welfare and do not advocate such operations. The colleagues I have met are tacitly against such operations,” Liu said.
At the same time, animal rights activists demand that this practice be stopped because of the physical pain and psychological suffering it causes to animals.
This procedure costs about 300 yuan (about 1650 UAH).
