The renewed mobilization will also apply to men abroad: the Rada announced questions to them
In early 2024, Ukraine continues to work on changes to mobilization legislation and military service. For this purpose, a number of innovations have been developed and presented in the draft law No. 10378. Some of these changes will affect Ukrainian men abroad.
The mobilization of Ukrainian men abroad has been confirmed by MP from the Servant of the People party Yehor Chernev. He emphasized that this category of persons liable for military service is mentioned in the document, however, he did not provide any details on how they plan to mobilize men abroad.
Chernev commented briefly: he confirmed that the document contains changes to this category. However, according to him, there are many more questions than clear answers to it now.
Increased mobilization in Ukraine
At the end of December 2023, reports began to appear on social media that the Border Guard Service had stopped letting men out of Ukraine. It was also about those citizens who are legally entitled to this because they are parents with many children and have a disability of group III. In just a few hours, huge queues formed at the border guards’ offices. In some places, people were waiting for more than a day to cross the border.
Outraged citizens did not understand why they were not allowed to leave Ukraine if all their documents were in order. Only a day later, an official comment from the State Border Guard Service appeared. Spokesperson Andriy Demcheno confirmed that Ukrainian men with disabilities and large families will now be checked more thoroughly, and that an additional document is required to cross the border – a certificate of deferral from the TCC.
Proposals to expel men from abroad have been made for a long time, but most EU countries are not ready for this procedure, and some are already clearly saying that they will not do it. For example, the German authorities will not deport Ukrainian men who have been granted temporary asylum in the country and are working.
One of the options for notifying persons liable for military service abroad is the conscript’s electronic office, similar to the way it works in courts. Persons liable for military service must provide an up-to-date e-mail and phone number, and an electronic summons will be sent to this address.
