Another loud night has passed in the Russian city of Belgorod. In the evening, on January 4, around 23:00, an air raid alarm sounded in the city – later, locals heard dozens of explosions and began posting videos of “arrivals” on social media.
The Russian Defense Ministry claims that Belgorod was once again shelled by the Vilkha missile system. This is a Ukrainian development, a descendant of the Soviet Smerch MLRS. The claimed range of the Vilkha is about 110 kilometers.
According to eyewitnesses, it landed on Makarenko Street, the eastern outskirts of the city. The residents of Belgorod were “shaken up” quite a bit – pieces of what fell into the courtyard of the residential area not only smashed the windows, but also damaged parked cars – one of them even turned over.
Naturally, local propagandists flocked to the site of the missile crash and confidently claimed that the Ukrainians were to blame. Another interesting fact is that the area where the shell allegedly landed is called by the Ukrainian word Kreida.
The governor of the Belgorod region, Gladkov, also arrived at the site. According to him, as a result of another “ruthless” attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as many as 130 windows, 30 cars were damaged and two Russians were wounded.
It is worth recalling that on December 30, 2023, the day after the devastating Russian terrorist missile attack on Ukraine, the Russian city of Belgorod was also attacked. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the city was also attacked from a Vilkha. Then 24 Russians were killed and more than 100 were injured.
Ukrainian intelligence services claim that Ukraine does not target civilian objects, and the events in the center of Belgorod are the result of irresponsible Russian air defense, sources told Suspilne.
