OpenAI lifts direct ban on military and combat use of AI without announcement
OpenAI has made unannounced changes to its product usage policy. In particular, the document excludes a direct ban on the use of chatbots and other developments for military purposes.
Previously, the clause on the inadmissibility of military and combat use was on the list of prohibited practices, along with the creation of weapons and surveillance of communications. Now, the policy is more vaguely worded, although it still contains warnings about weapons.

The company confirmed that it wanted to clarify and open the door to cooperation with the military. In particular, OpenAI already cooperates with DARPA in the field of cybersecurity.
According to experts, the lifting of direct restrictions will allow the company to work more actively with the US Department of Defense and other government agencies. Although it is unclear how these boundaries will be drawn in practice.
