The Hubble Space Telescope has taken a photo of a 250 thousand meter long star bridge. light years, stretching between two galaxies from the Arp 295 group, NASA reports.
When galaxies are so close that they gravitationally affect each other’s shape, they are called interacting galaxies. The process of interaction takes place over billions of years and can lead to the merger of galaxies.
The merger of galaxies is considered a common phenomenon, for example, the Milky Way will merge with the massive Andromeda galaxy in about 4 billion years.
The Arp 295 group consists of three spiral galaxies – Arp 295a, Arp 295b, and Arp 295c. They are located almost 270 million light years from Earth in the direction of the constellation Aquarius.
