Microsoft and OpenAI want to invest $500 million in a company that makes humanoid robots
Figure AI may become the first robotic “unicorn”
Microsoft and OpenAI are exploring options for investing up to $500 million in a humanoid robotics startup, Bloomberg reports.
This is Figure AI, a company that wants to “deploy autonomous humanoid robots” around the world, according to its website.
A Bloomberg source reported that Figure AI could be valued at $1.9 billion, potentially making it the first android unicorn.
According to Bloomberg, OpenAI previously invested in another robotics startup called 1X Technologies. To date, it has raised $100 million, and ChatGPT creators led its $23.5 million Series A funding.
According to an Axios report, CEO Brett Adcock founded Figure AI in 2022. He created a team of roboticists from Tesla and Boston Dynamics. The company has already signed a partnership agreement with BMW in early January.
