Signal introduces innovations: users will be able to hide their mobile numbers
The Signal messenger allows users to communicate with other people in the application without telling them their mobile phone number. This was reported in the company’s official blog.
Instead of a mobile phone number, users will be able to use a unique username.
The user will also be able to create a QR code or a link that will direct people to their username. This will allow other people to quickly contact them in the Signal app without having to enter their phone number.
Your Signal username is not a login or nickname that you will be known by in the app, it is not a permanent identifier, and it is not visible to the people you communicate with in Signal. A username is just a quick way to initiate a contact in Signal without giving your phone number.

Unlike the profile name, the username must be unique and contain two or more digits at the end.
The feature is currently in beta testing and will become publicly available in the coming weeks.
However, to register with the Signal app, users will still need to provide their mobile phone number.
