Ukrainian Armed Forces repel major tank assault near Avdiivka
Forbes reports a major success for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in their defense against what may be one of the largest tank assaults by the Russian army near Avdiivka since the start of the full-scale invasion. On Saturday, March 30, the Russians lost a third of their tanks in an attempted offensive, which demonstrates the courage and high combat capability of Ukrainian troops.
Prior to this offensive, according to Forbes, the Russian military suffered heavy losses of vehicles during its attempts to capture Avdiivka, leading it to rely heavily on infantry forces. However, shortly before the assault, the Russians deployed a large number of armored vehicles, including 36 tanks and 12 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) from the 6th Tank Regiment of the 90th Tank Division, and launched an attack on Ukrainian positions.
In response, the 25th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a successful counterattack, destroying 12 tanks and 8 infantry fighting vehicles from the Russian convoy. This action was a vivid example of effective defense, in which the Ukrainian military used mines, artillery, anti-tank missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to repel the enemy.
Despite the harsh conditions and lack of ammunition, Ukrainian brigades demonstrate high combat capability and the ability to effectively resist the enemy, often remaining steadfast in the face of a large and well-armed enemy force. Describing the fighting around Tonenke as “positional,” the Center for Defense Strategies emphasizes that neither side was able to make significant advances after the assault, confirming the difficult but determined defense of Ukrainian forces.
