Russians attack Shostka and Konotop energy facilities: Sumy left without electricity
On the night of May 22, the Russian Federation conducted a drone strike on the energy facilities of Shostka and Konotop in Sumy region, which led to a blackout in Sumy. This was reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration (RMA), says the Sumy Regional Military Administration (RMA).
Details of the attack
According to the Sumy Regional Military Command, all necessary services are working at the sites of the attacks, and the consequences of the Russian attack are being clarified. Work is currently underway to restore power supply, which was cut off due to an enemy attack.
The head of the Sumy city military administration, Oleksiy Drozdenko, said that the attack left the city of Sumy without electricity.
Restoration work
The city council informs that at 05:20 they started restoring power supply in the city. Water intakes are also being restored to ensure water supply to consumers. Due to the power outage, trolleybus traffic was suspended, but autonomous trolleybuses are now running on the routes.
At 7 a.m., the UIA reported that power companies had restored electricity supply in Sumy, Romny and Okhtyrka districts. In Shostka and Konotop districts, work continues to restore power supply.
Ukrenergo noted that emergency restoration works are underway and critical infrastructure is being connected in the de-energized areas and cities.
The situation in Shostka
At 8 a.m., Mykola Noga, head of the Shostka community, reported that the entire community had no electricity or water supply. Backup power plants are used to ensure water supply. Power supply is scheduled to be restored: in some areas from 7 to 9 am, in others from 9 to 11 am. There are also invincibility points for the public.
According to Noga, the power supply system has been critically damaged, and power engineers are actively working to eliminate the consequences of the shelling.
