“It seemed impossible”: Andriy Shevchenko pointed to Russia’s lies in the war with Ukraine

Former head coach of the Ukrainian national team Andriy Shevchenko called Russia’s aggression in our country a crime against civilians. The 45-year-old expert stressed that Ukrainians are fighting for their freedom and desire to be part of the European community.

Shevchenko himself told this in an interview with an authoritative Italian edition Corriere della Sera. He stressed that Russia is deliberately lying to the world and its citizens, calling the war a so-called “special operation”.

This is not a conflict, this is not a special operation, as they want to sell. This is aggression, a crime against civilians. Nobody wanted to believe it until the last minute. We could not imagine that Russia is capable of this. It seemed impossible to us. We are fighting and will fight for our freedom and our rights. We want to get closer to Europe. We did not attack anyone, we are just defending ourselves“, – said the legendary football player of the national team of Ukraine, “Dynamo” Kyiv, and Italian “Milan”.

He also supported the suspension of the Russian national team from participating in the playoffs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. “While the war is going on, Russian athletes cannot take part in competitions. I pray every day for the war to end,” Shevchenko said.
