Russia may transfer its troops from Syria to Ukraine – Reuters
Russia has already withdrawn some military resources from Syria to focus on the war against Ukraine, the publication assures.
The Russian Federation may withdraw its military contingent, which is participating in the Syrian civil war on the side of Bashar al-Assad’s government forces, to redirect it to the war with Ukraine. This is reported by Reuters.
The head of Turkish intelligence, Hakan Fidan, held numerous meetings with his Syrian counterpart Ali Mamluk the day before, which indicate a change in Russian policy regarding the Syrian conflict.
An unnamed Turkish security official said Russia had withdrawn some military resources from Syria to focus on the war against Ukraine and asked Turkey, which backs Syrian rebels, to normalize relations with Assad to ‘accelerate a political solution’ to the Syrian conflict.
According to the official, Russia wants Syria and Turkey to overcome their problems and reach certain agreements that are beneficial to everyone, both Turkey and Syria.
A source allied to Damascus told Reuters that Russia had pushed Syria to the talks as Moscow seeks to strengthen its position and that of Assad in case it has to redeploy forces entirely to Ukraine, where it has suffered incredible casualties over the past week.
