Japan banned the export to Russia of goods related to chemical weapons
Japan has decided to ban exports to Russia of goods potentially linked to chemical weapons as additional sanctions against Moscow in connection with its invasion of Ukraine. This was stated by the Secretary of the Japanese government, Hirokazu Matsuno, Reuters reports.
According to the decision of the Japanese government, 21 Russian organizations, including scientific laboratories subject to the export ban, were also added to the list of sanctions.
When the sanctions were announced, Japan also expressed concern about Russia’s nuclear blackmail.
“Japan is deeply concerned about the possibility of using nuclear weapons during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” Matsuno was quoted as saying at a briefing on Monday.
The Japanese government also assured that they will continue to work with the international community to support Ukraine by introducing sanctions against Russia.
The introduction of new sanctions took place against the background of news about mobilization in Russia and the holding of a pseudo-referendum on the territory of four partially occupied Ukrainian regions on their “joining” the Russian Federation.
- On the morning of September 21, Putin announced “partial” mobilization in Russia and “support” for fake referendums in the occupied territories.
- The EU responded that they are ready to introduce new economic sanctions against Russia in connection with the announcement of “partial” mobilization in the Russian Federation and the holding of pseudo-referendums.
- EU countries aim to reach a political agreement within weeks to impose a price cap on Russian oil in response to the Kremlin’s actions.
