In the Stryker family, an armored personnel carrier appeared to counter drone swarms

General Dynamics introduced a new armored personnel carrier from the Stryker family. According to Army Recognition, the Leonidas armored personnel carrier is designed to counter drone swarms.

The premiere of the new product took place in Washington at the specialized exhibition event AUSA 2022. General Dynamics engineers mounted the Leonidas microwave installation manufactured by the Epirus company on the armored personnel carrier.

Stryker Leonidas should become a key link in mobile multi-layered air defense. During recent tests, the APC’s microwave installation successfully disabled a swarm of aircraft. It is worth noting that the latter are a relatively new threat to world armies. There are not so many effective solutions for combating them on the defense market.

The software used to operate Leonidas is updatable. This means that as the capabilities of UAVs develop, the effectiveness of countering them will increase. The Leonidas installation supports integration with third-party drone identification and destruction systems.
