The RAPIDFire turret for destroying drones was presented at the Euronaval exhibition
The military consortium founded by Thales and Nexter brought the RAPIDFire automatic gun turret to the Euronaval 2022 exhibition in Paris. It is designed to destroy drones, aircraft, missiles, floating mines and watercraft.
Detection, capture and destruction of targets are carried out automatically by an autonomous turret. Human intervention in this process is not required. 140 charges are placed in the artillery tower. This is enough for 30 interceptions of air targets.
RAPIDFire was developed on the basis of the CTA International complex. Engineers of the military consortium mounted it inside the armored tower. RAPIDFire can use telescopic munitions to engage targets. In addition, Anti Aerial Airburst support is announced, the development of which has not yet been completed.
The autonomous turret boasts the presence of an electronic-optical fire control system manufactured by Thales, a laser range finder and a multispectral sight. RAPIDFire can automatically select ammunition suitable for hitting targets. In 2023, sea trials of the turret will begin in France. It will be mounted on the Jacques Chevallier tanker. The ground-based artillery tower is mounted on the CAESAR Mkll chassis.
