Google is bringing Material You-style color themes to Chrome desktop
The latest Google Chrome Canary build includes a feature that will automatically choose the browser’s color scheme based on the wallpaper that’s installed on your desktop.
The feature was first reported by Reddit user @Leopeva-64-2. It was he who showed how changing the wallpaper of the new tab automatically adjusts the color scheme of the address bar and the browser interface. Of course, color schemes in Chrome were available much earlier, but such a function makes everything much easier.
According to the description, the feature ‘allows you to set the theme color based on the background image color when the background image changes on a new tab page.’ It will work on Windows, Mac, Linux, chromeOS and Fuchsia.
In general, the feature is very similar to Android Material You, which changes the design of the Android operating system depending on what wallpaper you have installed. It replaced the Material Design concept with the release of Android 12.
There’s no word yet on whether the feature will roll out to users, especially given that it was found in a build of Chrome called Canary, which is used for the earliest testing of new features.
