According to Reuters, the corporation decided to close the project due to budget cuts. All employees who were previously engaged in the development of watches will be transferred to the department for creating augmented reality glasses.
Rumors about the development of a Meta smart watch appeared as early as 2021. The novelty was planned to be created to compete with the Apple Watch. The watch was to receive a design in the style of Fitbit devices, two cameras, an Android operating system, a heart rate sensor, as well as the ability to track steps, sleep and quickly publish content on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
By the way, in addition to closing the smart watch development project, the Meta company is also going to lay off 11,000 employees in the coming days.
