British car repairs potholes in three minutes (video)
British company Velocity Patching has created a machine that cleans, compacts and inserts aggregate into road defects. The whole process takes a little more than three minutes.
The Velocity Patching System can fix potholes in just over three minutes at a much lower cost than traditional methods
A team of three people goes to the place of potholes. However, two people may be enough – the truck driver can help the lead operator lower the asphalt compactor from the vehicle and put it back when the job is finished. But only one person is needed to perform the main tasks.
The employee uses only one manipulator. It blows air at high speed into the hole to clean it. When there is nothing left, emulsion (cold bitumen) is blown out of the same hole to seal the hole and avoid new problems in the future.
After this preparation, the operator activates the next layer of coating. For this he needs the help of a colleague. It takes two workers exactly three minutes and five seconds to completely repair the pothole. The whole process is on video.
According to Velocity Patching, each repair costs about $20, while a traditional patch costs $66. This is not the only economic advantage that the company claims. His method of patching does not require earthworks, does not generate waste, and there is no need to close roads for repairs. Productivity is another plus: while the traditional method can handle only 20 repairs per day, the Velocity patcher can do 200.
