A machine that can ‘overtake’ the German Leopard and become the first Western tank in the Armed Forces
The media reported that Great Britain is negotiating to transfer its main battle tanks to Ukraine
The publication Sky News published a material in which it is said that – ‘for several weeks’ negotiations have been held in Great Britain regarding the supply of a certain number of Challenger 2 main battle tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This publication was informed by one of the sources with information about these negotiations.
Rishi Sunak’s government has not yet made a final decision on the transfer of tanks to Ukraine, while the publication suggests that Great Britain may use the next meeting of the contact group in Ramstein, which is scheduled to take place on January 20, to officially announce the transfer of tanks.
According to the publication, the number of tanks that Great Britain plans to transfer is quite symbolic – 10 units, enough to equip a tank company. But such a decision can have a positive effect on the barrier that currently exists regarding the supply of tanks to Ukraine by other countries.
For example, a coalition of four countries is currently emerging in Europe, which are ready to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to the ‘storage’, but have not yet resorted to specific actions. At the same time, at the beginning of the new year, Ukraine’s allies have already announced the transfer of a number of important weapons to Ukraine, such as the Bradley BMP from the USA or the Marder BMP from Germany or the AMX-10RC wheeled tanks from France.
