As the countdown to the song contest begins, work is underway to transform Liverpool, which will host Eurovision 2023 on behalf of Ukraine.
Despite the victory of the Ukrainian band Kalush at Eurovision 2022, the United Kingdom is hosting this year’s song contest on behalf of Ukraine because of the war unleashed by Russia. A statue of the Beatles in Liverpool was dressed in traditional Ukrainian clothing for the BBC’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The figures of Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and John Lennon are now dressed in white embroidered shirts and will be featured in next month’s coverage of the event.
As the 40-day countdown to the competition begins on Friday, April 7, work is underway to transform the city’s M&S Bank Arena for the contest.
As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine prevented the winning country from hosting the 2023 contest, organizers said the United Kingdom, whose representative Sam Ryder came in second place, would instead put on a show on behalf of Ukraine.
The contest will be hosted by celebrities Hannah Weddingham, Alesha Dixon, Ukrainian singer Yulia Sanina and chat show host Graham Norton.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 Grand Final will take place on May 13. The tickets were sold out in less than 40 minutes.
