Early warning system for missile attack launched in Kyiv
On May 4, an Israeli early warning system for a missile attack was launched in Kyiv. The Jerusalem Post reported this with reference to Ukraine’s Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk.
The system identifies missiles of all types and shows possible trajectories of their fall. In this way, it can reduce the area in which residents may be in danger. The system also calculates how long people have to seek shelter when they are in the danger zone.
Ukraine sent a request to Israel for missile warning systems after Russia invaded Ukraine last year. The previous government had promised to send the system to Ukraine, but the ambassador noted the personal involvement of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in ensuring the project’s rapid completion.
The ambassador also said that this system will appear in other major cities of Ukraine.
“I hope they will quickly finalize (the alert system), and we will be able to copy it and apply it in all major cities,” Korniychuk said. “The Ukrainian government controls six cities with a population of over a million people, and we will definitely use Israeli technology. This is very important for our civilian and military infrastructure. This equipment will allow us to save lives.”
