Air Force confirms destruction of Russian Dagger
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed the destruction of the Russian hypersonic missile “Kinzhal”. This was announced by the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Mykola Oleshchuk.
“I congratulate the Ukrainian people on a historic event! Yes, we have shot down the “unparalleled” Kinzhal!” Oleshchuk wrote.
According to Oleshchuk, during a night attack on May 4 in the sky of Kyiv region, a MiG-31K fired an X-47 missile from Russia, which was shot down by a Ukrainian Patriot air defense system.
“And one more thing, there is no need to run, as they say in Ukraine: before the father goes to hell, to make public in advance the information that the enemy can use! We will definitely report what, where, with what, and when we shot down! Everything has its time,” the Air Force commander wrote.
Oleshchuk spoke about how his daughter reacts to explosions in the air.
“When loud explosions are heard in the air, my daughter always reassures the neighbors by saying: calm down, our air defense system is working! Talk to your neighbors, help each other in difficult moments, believe in our Air Force, believe in air defense!” the Air Force commander wrote.
- The Kyiv Military Administration reported on May 4 that about 10 pieces of debris from downed Russian occupiers’ targets fell in three districts of the capital as a result of a night attack, and that air defense “preliminarily shot down ballistic targets.”
- On May 5, the military analytical publication Defence Express suggested that Ukrainian air defense was able to shoot down an X-47 Kinzhal missile over Kyiv for the first time on the night of May 4. This conclusion was made based on the analysis of photographs of the missile wreckage available to DE. The Air Force refused to comment on this information, in fact criticizing such publications.
