Missile carriers and the largest An-22s in the world: what the airbase from which Russia attacks Ukraine looks like
The Olenya airbase, located above the Arctic Circle, has at least 22 airplanes, three helicopters and a refueling plane.
Photos of the airbase from which the bombers take off to attack Ukraine have been posted online. The pictures were posted on his Twitter page by an American observer under the nickname “MT Anderson”.
It is the Russian air base Olenya, located above the Arctic Circle.
Currently, it is based there:
- three Tu-160 intercontinental supersonic strategic bombers;
- 14 of the world’s only serial bombers and missile carriers with Tu-95 turboprop engines
- two long-range heavy supersonic aircraft Tu-22;
- three of the world’s largest heavy turboprop transport aircraft An-22;
- three helicopters;
- Il-78 refueling aircraft
