Ukrainian Armed Forces use Turkish-made M483A1 cluster munitions
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are armed with Turkish 155-mm ammunition, which belongs to the cluster class. Analysts from the Ukraine Weapon Tracker team were the first to draw attention to this.
At the beginning of the year, it was reported that Ukraine had received an unknown number of 155-mm DPICM shells from Turkey. This acronym stands for “Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munition”. M483A1 shells are manufactured by the Turkish company MKE. Evidence of their use by the Ukrainian army emerged only this week.

The M483A1 is a member of the DPICM family of American artillery and rocket launchers. During the approach to the target, the 155-mm munition is divided into dozens of submunitions. It includes M42 submunitions in the amount of 64 units and M46 submunitions in the amount of 24 units. The M483A1 has a kill area of 300 meters. Upon impact with targets, the submunitions detonate.
