MT-LB is a floating multi-purpose armored personnel carrier. It is used to transport people and goods. The combat vehicle is also often used as a tractor for transporting artillery pieces, even though it is not formally designed for this purpose.
The armored personnel carrier can sail at a speed of about 5-6 km/h. The maximum speed on the highway is over 60 km/h. Inside is a 240 horsepower engine. The range reaches 500 km.
The MT-LB was equipped with a ZU-23-2 caliber gun. It was developed in the middle of the last century to destroy low-flying aircraft when the Soviet army did not have portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
According to Oryx analysts, Russian troops have lost 25 MT-LB armored personnel carriers equipped with ZU-23-2 since February 24, 2024. Almost half of them were captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
