Ukrainian air defense system reinforced with a battery of Skyguard SAMs
Oryx analysts have calculated the amount of military assistance provided by Italy. As it turned out, official Rome helped Kyiv strengthen not only its artillery but also its air defense.
Italy, together with France, handed over SAMP/T systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In terms of its capabilities, this system is not inferior to the Patriot. It can be used to repel ballistic missile attacks. Many Ukrainian media outlets wrote about the transfer of the SAMP/T system to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Meanwhile, the journalists forgot to mention that, in addition to the European equivalent of the Patriot, the Italians handed over a battery of Skyguard air defense systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Earlier, the Ukrainian army received the Skyguard system from Spain. Thus, this complex is already known to our military. He hits air targets with Aspide missiles.
In Italy, the Skyguard system is called Spada. The complex includes:
- Launchers (3 units).
- Pluto command post with radar.
- Support vehicles.
- Oerlicon GDF-001 systems (optional).
It is worth noting that Aspide is a licensed copy of the American-made AIM-7 Sparrow. The rocket received a more powerful engine, a new homing head, drives and rudders.
