M2A2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle sustained a direct hit from a Grad MLRS shell to its turret – the crew successfully evacuated
Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Malyar shared the story of the 47th Brigade soldiers about the strength of American armored vehicles. During the BMP, the Bradley was hit by a direct hit from a Grad MLRS shell. The entire crew survived and evacuated, and the driver was able to drive the car to safety and then extinguish it.
In the photo, the damaged Bradley doesn’t look too badly smashed, although it’s clear that the exterior and chassis have been damaged. The vehicle is currently undergoing repairs, and its crew is already serving on other vehicles. The damaged turret is in place, and the armor does not appear to be pierced or deformed – a striking contrast to the “flying” turrets and spreading armor of Russian tanks.
As a result, the skilled crew will be able to take part in combat again with modern equipment, and the armored vehicle itself will also return to service. As the Russian occupiers say, “there is no more.” The situation clearly demonstrates the difference in the level of technology between Russia and the United States and explains the higher number of deaths in the enemy’s ranks. Hanna Malyar noted that there is no equipment that cannot be destroyed, but there is equipment that saves lives.
The Bradley M2A2 ODS is in service with the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Its design was finalized based on combat experience during Operation Desert Storm. The armor of the BMP has been reinforced and the landing compartment has been redesigned to allow for faster exit from the vehicle. The crew consists of a commander, a mechanic-driver and a gunner; the vehicle is capable of transporting 6-7 troops. It is armed with a 25 mm cannon, a 7.62 mm machine gun and a TOW ATGM.
