Germany to hand over 45 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine by the end of 2023

This year, Ukraine will receive 2 IRIS-T SLM anti-aircraft missile systems from Germany. As it turned out, Germany will also provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with a new batch of Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.

What is known

This was announced by the German Defense Minister in an interview with the German newspaper Welt. We are talking about 45 anti-aircraft tanks. The project is planned to be implemented jointly with the United States. Deliveries of the anti-aircraft guns are scheduled for this year. By the way, Ukraine currently has 34 of these units in service. The Ukrainian Armed Forces use them to fight UAVs.

Gepard is a self-propelled anti-aircraft system designed to cover ground troops, destroy air targets at inclined ranges from 100 m to 4 km and at altitudes up to 3 km flying at speeds of up to 350-400 m/s, as well as ground and surface targets from a range of up to 4,500 meters. The Gepard is based on the Leopard tank chassis. The plant has been manufactured by Krauss-Maffei since the mid-1970s.
