Modernized AIM-120D-3 missile for F-16 is capable of hitting targets at a range of 180 km
Raytheon and the U.S. Air Force complete operational testing of the AMRAAM missile. Earlier, they announced the completion of developmental tests of the AIM-120D-3.
Raytheon’s website states that an F-16 fighter jet was used to launch the missiles during the test. According to Paul Ferraro, who serves as the head of the Air Power division, the company is increasing production of the AIM-120D-3 at a faster pace than ever before in history.

Raytheon’s management unveiled a plan to modernize the aircraft missile in 2021. Earlier this year, the company signed a contract for the production of AIM-120C-8 and D-3 missiles. It amounted to USD 1.15 billion. Last August, Raytheon was awarded a contract to upgrade the software and hardware for the AIM-120C-8.
The most modern version of the AMRAAM missile is the AIM-120D-3. It received modernized equipment and more advanced software. The missile is capable of hitting targets at a distance of 180 km.
