Ukrainian air defense system: what is known about the new development

“We have the latest air defense systems. They are now of medium range. Of course, this is not an analog of Patriot, SAMP/T or IRIS-T. But I think it’s more like Hawk or similar medium-range systems that are actually Ukrainian-made and Ukrainian-developed,” the deputy head of the committee said during the telethon.

According to him, missiles for unnamed Ukrainian-made systems have already been developed.

“This will also be covered by our military-industrial complex,” he said.

Hawk (Homing All-the-Way-Killer) – American anti-aircraft missile systems. Hawk missiles can fly at a speed of approximately 3000 km/h and hit targets at an altitude of up to 40 kilometers. It was NATO’s main air defense system during the Cold War. It is still in service in 10 countries.

On Friday, July 21, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said that the Ukrainian military-industrial complex (MIC) has already begun to produce equipment to protect ports from Russian attacks.

“There is a lack of air defense destruction means for some of the weapons used by Russia. The President has set a task to strengthen the protection (of port infrastructure – ed.). Today, all contacts are working to speed up the delivery of the necessary equipment. However, I would like to note that we are also developing our own equipment, and we already have an understanding of the defense systems,” Danilov said during the telethon.
