Japan imposes new anti-Russian sanctions in the automotive sector

The Japanese government has banned the supply of cars with an internal combustion engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters to Russia. This was stated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura, UNN reports citing the press service of the ministry.

Also banned from importation into Russia are tires for commercial vehicles – trucks and buses, etc.

“The restrictions will come into effect on August 9,” the Economy Minister said.

The new restrictions also apply to such goods as:

  • hybrid cars and electric vehicles, yachts, railway locomotives and wagons;
  • car locks and car seats;
  • tires for large vehicles;
  • plywood, wood, waste paper;
  • cement, stone, asphalt, ceramic tiles and blocks;
  • glass products;
  • some steel, copper, nickel, aluminum, lead, zinc products;
  • wool, cotton, artificial fabrics, knitwear, yarn, cotton wool, and clothing;
  • colorants;
  • photo or cinematic material, etc.

The agency emphasized that the exact list of goods subject to the restrictions will be determined on August 2.
