Ukrainian Armed Forces demonstrate maneuvers of Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicle for the first time

The Ukrainian Airborne Forces posted a video of Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicle maneuvers on their YouTube channel. One of the paratroopers disclosed the technical characteristics of the armored vehicle and compared it to its Soviet counterparts.

The German BMP is driven by a V6 MB 833 multi-fuel powerplant with a power output of 600 hp. с. On the highway, the armored vehicle can accelerate to 65 km/h. It travels at a speed of 45 km/h over rough terrain.

The main armor of the armored vehicle is a 20-mm automatic rapid-fire automatic gun MK 20 Rh 202. It can fire up to 1,200 shots in one minute. The Marder 1A3 is equipped with a 7.62 mm MG-3 machine gun as an additional weapon.

The capacity of the airborne compartment is 6 people. The commander is the seventh crew member. It is located in the combat section. The ammunition compartment is capable of withstanding 14.5 mm bullets.

The infantrymen feel quite comfortable in the airborne unit. This is what makes the German BMP stand out from its Soviet counterparts, such as the BMP-1.

According to the paratroopers, large quantities of Marder 1A3s can accelerate Ukraine’s victory in the war. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are to receive another 20 Marder 1A3s from Rheinmetall by the end of the summer.
