Germans show how IRIS-T SLM in Egypt shoots down UAVs with 100% efficiency (video)
Not only the experience of its use in Ukraine is used to market weapons on the world market
A video of test firing conducted in Egypt using the German-made IRIS-T SLM air defense system has been made publicly available. The English subtitles suggest that the video was shot by the German company Diehl Defense as the manufacturer of this SAM, in particular for marketing purposes. And the “desert” camouflage on the elements of this anti-aircraft missile system may also demonstrate that Germany could already begin delivering IRIS-T SLM to Egypt in the second half of 2023 under a contract signed in 2019.
During these firings, the IRIS-T SLM team using two anti-aircraft missiles shot down two target drones, and this SAM showed its 100% effectiveness. And the fact that the tests were conducted in this format is indicative from at least two perspectives.
First, it seems that even when it comes to marketing weapons systems that have already proven themselves on the battlefield in Ukraine, Western manufacturers of such systems prefer to demonstrate not only how effectively their products were used by our defenders.
But it also means that other customers and potential customers will be able to use the supplied weapons systems with the same efficiency, and that military personnel from other countries can be easily retrained to operate such weapons.
The second perspective is that potential customers of weapons that have proven themselves on the battlefield in Ukraine are likely to pay attention to the format in which the Ukrainian Armed Forces could use these weapons in repelling Russian invaders.
One more important detail worth noting in this video is that we can also notice the non-standard size of the TPC for the anti-aircraft missile, the fourth one on the right on the launcher. At the same time, it is unlikely that this is an IRIS-T SLS (short-range) TAC, since it uses a completely different principle of deploying anti-aircraft missiles – on an open launcher.
