New “Bohdana” on the battlefield: the Armed Forces of Ukraine told how the Ukrainian self-propelled gun is better than the old version (video)
A mechanic-driver of the Bohdana self-propelled artillery system, who took part in the liberation of Zmiinyi Island, spoke about the advantages of the updated version of the Ukrainian self-propelled artillery system
The press service of the 1st separate brigade of the Special Forces named after M. Kuznetsov. The Ivan Bohun Army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted a video on its Youtube account featuring a new version of the Ukrainian self-propelled artillery system 2S22 “Bohdan”, in which one of the soldiers gave his feedback on the updated artillery system that beats racists on the battlefield.
The Ukrainian self-propelled artillery system is described by its driver, a military man with the call sign “Papa,” who has experience operating both the new (Tatra 8×8) and the old, experimental “Bogdana” (KrAZ chassis), and he says that the updated vehicle is generally much better than the first samples of the self-propelled artillery system.
“It’s more comfortable, the computer works better, the cross-country ability is better, climate control, autonomous. It’s very convenient,” says Papa. He also emphasizes that the cabin is very stable during a shot: “It doesn’t throw, it doesn’t shake, it stands, it doesn’t move at all.”
Among the temporary shortcomings of the vehicle is the absence of a loading machine, which, of course, affects the speed of the Bohdana. For example, at present, a self-propelled gun can fire up to three shots per minute, and with the availability of a charging machine, this figure will double to six shots per minute.
In terms of range, the Bohdana self-propelled gun can hit up to 14-15 km with M107 shells, while with long-range ammunition the maximum range is 41-42 km.
By the way, it is Papa who talks about the advantages of Bohdana, and he was its mechanic-driver when this vehicle helped liberate Zmeinyi Island, when it was paired with the French Caesar vehicle.
He says that the operation was very difficult – the weather conditions were poor, and they had to shoot at the maximum distance. According to the soldier, a total of 48 shells were fired at Zmiine – approximately seven units were fired in the first half of the day, and the rest later.
