Development of unique ground drones has begun in Ukraine
Ground drones are being designed in Ukraine. While the rest of the world is just beginning to master such technologies, the Armed Forces are already successfully using them on the battlefield. This became known from Oleh Katkov, who works for the Defense Express online publication as editor-in-chief.
He called ground drones a completely new branch of the military industry. Ukraine has made significant progress in this area. In 2021, one of the ground drones was shown to the Minister of Defense.
According to Katkov, ground drones cannot currently be used as an independent combat unit. The chief editor mentioned the main difficulties that arise during the operation of robotic platforms:
- Inability of the drone operator to fully assess the terrain (there may be trenches or trenches in the grass).
- Difficulty in achieving a balance between low visibility and high cross-country ability.
- Limited range (control channel is interrupted by terrain).
