Four prototypes of the Xiaomi MS11 electric car were spotted on the streets of Xinjiang. In addition, at the same time, the leaders of a Chinese company visited the autonomous region.
What is known
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun and Vice President Liu Weibing visited Xinjiang while the company was testing electric car prototypes. Officially, the visit of top managers is related to testing the consumer qualities of Xiaomi MIX Fold 3, which had not yet been announced.
All cars were covered with camouflage film. According to media reports, Xiaomi MS11 was spotted both with and without LiDAR. It is likely that the commercial version of the car will be available with and without LiDAR, depending on the configuration.
This is a typical practice for Chinese companies. Chinese automakers use LiDAR as part of their active driver assistance system. However, cheaper electric vehicle configurations do not have this option.
Xiaomi announced work on the car back in March 2021. If all goes according to plan, production of electric vehicles will begin in the first quarter of 2024. This will be the last project for the current CEO of the company.
