A man from China tried to flee to South Korea on a jet ski. The name of this person has not yet been confirmed, but it is likely to be Kwon Pyong, a well-known critic of Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
According to the South Korean Coast Guard, the man traveled more than 300 kilometers across the Yellow Sea using binoculars and a compass, but then got stuck. The fugitive was wearing a life jacket and helmet, and was towing five barrels of fuel on his motorcycle.
During the trip, the man topped up the fuel and threw the empty barrels into the sea. After the motorcycle got stuck, he called for help on his own and was detained.
A South Korean activist, Lee Dae-sung of Dialogue China, told reporters that the fugitive’s name is Kwon Pyeong, he is 35 years old, and he was previously held in prison in China for publicly criticizing President Xi.
He probably had a travel ban from China, so he could not legally leave the country.
