Poland will set up production of most components for American F-16 fighters. This was stated by Janusz Zakretski, director of the PZL Mielec plant, in a commentary to PAP on Wednesday, August 30.
“Ultimately, PZL Mielec will produce 70 to 80% of the F-16’s hull structure,” he said.
According to Zakretsky, the company intends to implement this plan by the end of next year.
“The production of F-16 Block 70/72 structures (the latest modification of the fighter jet – ed.) at PZL Mielec is carried out in a comprehensively modernized workshop with a total area of 14 thousand square meters. Previously, military jets were produced here,” said the plant’s director.
The F-16 Block 70/72 fighter entered production only in January of this year. It is equipped with an APG-83 long-range radar (SABR) with an active phased array, an onboard electronic warfare system, AN/AAQ-33 Sniper targeting containers, etc.
As a reminder, the three countries agreed to provide Ukraine with F-16s. At the same time, the aviation coalition now includes 14 countries and “their number is increasing almost every week.”
