Ukrainian company has developed a boat for the military from an innovative material

A Ukrainian shipbuilding company has announced a project for a boat for the military made of high molecular weight polyethylene.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv – City of Shipbuilders channel.

Mykolaiv-based shipbuilding company Gulfstream, which specializes in the manufacture of boats and small vessels made of HDPE, has announced the GS7300 project boat.

HDPE (high-density polyethylene) is a relatively new material in shipbuilding. It has a number of extremely valuable properties when building a ship: it does not require painting or other maintenance, does not corrode, and is extremely resistant to shock loads.

Judging by the illustrations of the new project, the company sees the military and other security forces, such as rescuers, border guards, police, etc. as the target audience.

General characteristics of the GS7300 project boat:

  • Length, m – 7.4
  • Width, m – 2.42
  • Board height on the midship, m – 0.96
  • Payload (according to the certificate), kg – 1350
  • Max. Payload, kg – 2700
  • Empty body weight, kg – 980
  • Maximum power of outboard engines, hp – 1×250 or 2×150
  • Crew, people – 12

The hull of the boat has a three-dimensional contour with a central ski. A self-draining cockpit can be equipped according to customer requirements. The boat received a certificate from the Italian maritime registry Registro italiano navale (RINA), which is recognized in Ukraine.

The manufacturer’s website offers a range of configurations: Base, Taxi, Special, Patrol, Cabin. The boat models have a different layout depending on the version.

It is known that the first hull of the GS7300 project has already been launched. Today, it is the largest HDPE vessel manufactured in Ukraine. “Gulfstream offers vessels made of this material up to 24 meters long.

It is worth noting that HDPE is a non-magnetic material, so such vessels can be used by the services involved in water demining.
