Tests of the Dark Eagle missile from the LHRW hypersonic complex failed again
On September 6, the United States was to test-fire the Dark Eagle missile, part of the LHRW hypersonic ground-based system. The latter was delivered to Cape Canaveral. The launch never took place, as the military failed to activate the launcher. Thus, the Pentagon’s plans to put the LHRW on alert by the end of the year may be in jeopardy.
Details
The previous test launch of the missile took place in March this year. It also ended in failure. The Pentagon claims that even thwarted missile launches allowed experts to obtain the data necessary for further development of hypersonic weapons.
It is known that the Dark Eagle missile is capable of reaching a speed of Mach 4.9. The weight of its warhead is kept secret. The range of the LHRW system is 3,100 km/h. One division consists of four launchers with a total capacity of 8 missiles.
