“There is nothing new”: the White House and the Pentagon have not confirmed the transfer of ATACMS to Ukraine

According to Joe Biden’s spokeswoman, Karin Jean-Pierre, she has nothing to say about the information about arms deliveries in the short term.

The US White House could not confirm reports that Joe Biden had announced the transfer of long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. This was stated by spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre during a briefing on September 22.

According to her, the White House currently has no new official reports that could confirm the transfer of weapons to the Ukrainian military in the near future.

“I am not going to confirm the reports that have appeared. The president has long said that ATACMS is not ruled out. But I don’t have anything new to announce,” said Carine Jean-Pierre.

She also noted that the bilateral meeting held by Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelenskyy on September 21 was extremely important. There were strong signals that Washington will continue to support Kyiv in the long run.

After that, the United States announced a military aid package for Ukraine, which included additional ammunition for air defense systems, artillery and cluster munitions, and anti-tank weapons. It is worth $325 million.

The Pentagon also did not confirm reports of Joe Biden’s intention to provide Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles. Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology Douglas Bush noted that the Defense Department has all the information about the number of missiles and where they are stored. Washington will immediately send them to Ukraine if such a decision is made.

On September 22, NBC News reported that Joe Biden had promised him several ATACMS missiles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces during talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The journalists noted that the leaders had reached certain agreements, but no deadlines were announced.
