Around 9:30 am on October 1, a powerful explosion occurred in Ankara and shots were heard near the Turkish Interior Ministry and the Grand National Assembly.
This is reported by TGRT Haber.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that a terrorist attack took place at the entrance to the Interior Ministry’s Main Security Directorate, which led to a clash with police and a shootout.
Yerakliya said that the terrorists threw a hand grenade at the Interior Ministry from a car they had driven to the building of law enforcement agencies.
Later, about 400-500 meters away, where explosive ordnance disposal teams were already working, a second explosion occurred, but police reported that the second explosion was controlled.
It turned out that the second explosion occurred at the gates of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Ataturk Boulevard was blocked for pedestrians and civilian vehicles, and police, fire brigades and medics arrived at the scene.
“Around 9:30 a.m., terrorists who drove a commercial vehicle to the entrance of the Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate carried out a terrorist attack. One of the terrorists blew himself up, and another terrorist was neutralized. Two of our police officers were lightly injured in the fire. I wish a speedy recovery to our heroes,” said Turkish Interior Minister Erakliya.
