The EU accused Musk’s social network X (Twitter) of spreading disinformation about the war in Israel and threatened measures
The European Union may take measures against X (Twitter), as the social network is spreading disinformation about the war in Israel.
This is stated in a letter from European Commissioner Thierry Breton to Elon Musk, the owner of X (Twitter), The Guardian reports.
“After the terrorist attacks committed by Hamas against Israel, we have reason to believe that your platform is being used to spread illegal content and disinformation in the EU,” the letter to Elon Musk reads.
The European Commissioner emphasized that Elon Musk’s social media platform has been spreading fake and manipulative images and facts, including old images of armed conflicts that have nothing to do with Israel or footage that was actually taken in video games.
Elon Musk was urged to provide a “quick, accurate and complete response” within the next 24 hours to a request to contact Europol and “relevant law enforcement agencies” regarding disinformation on X (Twitter).
