Yamaha has unveiled another futuristic electric vehicle concept, this time with three wheels. The Yamaha Tricera is a radically unique three-wheeled electric vehicle.
Often classified as motorcycles in some areas and cars in others, many three-wheelers have more in common with cars than with motorcycles. But this new electric trail bike from Yamaha has a unique design that sets it apart from both cars and motorcycles.
Firstly, the delta-trail design, which includes two front wheels and one rear wheel, receives a rarely seen Yamaha addition, which is designed for three-wheel steering. This means that in addition to the typical rack-and-pinion steering at the front, the single rear wheel also turns when cornering very tightly.
In addition, the rig includes both automatic and manual steering modes for this rear wheel, with the company explaining that the manual mode provides “the sense of accomplishment that comes with acquiring and developing new driving skills.”
The design incorporates an open-top construction that lacks doors in favor of only seats, separating riders from the environment for a more immersive experience.
