The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 20 drones were shot down by air defense forces in the skies over two regions of the country. However, in a press release, the relevant ministry “lost” seven more UAVs that also attacked the territory of the Russian Federation at night.
On October 15, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the attack of 27 drones on infrastructure facilities in the Kursk and Belgorod regions. This was reported by the press service of the department.
According to the relevant ministry, 18 of the drones were allegedly destroyed by air defense systems over Kursk region, and 2 more over Belgorod region.
The Russian Defense Ministry traditionally blamed the UAV attack on the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Air defense forces intercepted 27 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, of which 18 were destroyed in the air over Kursk region and 2 over Belgorod region,” the ministry said.
The press release clarifies that 20 UAVs were destroyed in the skies over Kursk and Belgorod regions, but the aggressor country’s agency “lost” seven more drones. The Russian Defense Ministry does not specify whether there were any hits to infrastructure
The UAV attack was reported on October 14 in the evening by the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov.
“Our air defense system was triggered over the Belgorod district – an airplane-type UAV was shot down over the village of Nova Derevnya. Operational services are clarifying information about the consequences on the ground. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties,” he wrote.
According to a Russian official, the falling fragments pierced the roof and damaged the attic of a private residential building.
Local Telegram channels in Kursk report “pops” over the city: “Kursk is loud!!! The wing of a drone was on fire about 15 minutes ago. Do not touch anything yourself, if you find suspicious objects, call 112”.
On October 13, it was reported that UAVs attacked Bryansk and Belgorod. Russian authorities confirmed the attack by an airplane-type UAV. They kept silent about the fact that there were two attacks. During the second one, a chemical plant 120 kilometers from the border with Ukraine could have been hit.
