Latvia closes two checkpoints on the border with Russia

The Vientuli and Pededze checkpoints were closed due to restrictions imposed by Russia on Ukrainian citizens.

On Monday, October 16, Latvia closed two checkpoints on the border with Russia – Vientuli and Pededze. This was reported by the Delfi portal with reference to the LETA agency.

It is noted that the situation at the Vientuli checkpoint is calm, with concrete barriers on the border.

People who are stuck at the checkpoint will be transported by bus to the nearest checkpoint in Hrebneve (Ubylynka on the Russian side). After that, only border guards will remain in Vientula.

As a reminder, the Latvian government decided to close the Vientuli and Pededze checkpoints on October 16.

This step was taken in response to the restrictions imposed by Russia on Ukrainian citizens entering its territory from third countries.

Now Ukrainians will be able to enter Russia only through the checkpoint at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
