Ukrainian military assembles anti-drone rifle capable of jamming UAVs at a distance of 700 meters
Ukrainian soldier Serhiy Petryshyn has assembled an anti-drone rifle that can be used to shoot down enemy drones. The anti-drone system can jam commercial drones at a distance of 700 meters.
“I looked up information on the Internet, watched it, talked to the military who had some experience in this area. We discussed it with the military from other brigades,” Serhiy said.
“The first anti-drone rifle was difficult to manufacture because we had to customize everything. The second one went faster. I improved the design a little bit, and added more powerful batteries, units and antennas. During the period when we were in the Bakhmut area until we were withdrawn, I made eight guns,” the developer said.
The tests of the first anti-drone gun were successful: at a distance of about 700 meters, the weapon hit a Mavic 3T unmanned aerial vehicle. This was a very good result, since it is at a distance of 500-700 meters that a person can see the drone without using special optics.
The anti-drone gun should be pointed at the unmanned aerial vehicle when it appears in the human field of view. The electromagnetic field created by the anti-drone system interferes with the frequencies at which the drone is controlled by the remote control. The anti-drone gun must interact with the UAV until the drone’s battery runs out. This gun is most effective when interacting with Mavic. The cost of the gun is between 45 and 50 thousand.
